Our Role

The Tourism Strategy Group at the Ministry of Economic Development is responsible for the provision of quality information, research and forecasts to meet the needs of a wide range of tourism sector users.

The rationale for the Ministry undertaking this work is to ensure the tourism industry has the information it needs to support policy, marketing and commercial decisions relating to the sector.

 

Key Tasks

The Tourism Strategy Group's Research Team undertakes a range of tasks, including:

  • Managing the Core Tourism Data Set - International Visitor Survey, Domestic Travel Survey, International Visitor Arrivals, Commercial Accommodation Monitor, Tourism Satellite Account and Forecasts.
  • Developing and managing data collections in partnership with industry.
  • Undertaking research of importance to the sector.
  • Conducting analysis of tourism and other data covering a wide range of topic areas.
  • Undertaking communications of research outputs, including the research website, publications, analysis papers and a range of face-to-face communications.
