Total Visits

  • Total visits by travellers to Central South Island RTO are forecast to rise from 1.28m in 2008 to 1.35m in 2015 - an increase of 5.9% (75,500) or 0.8% p.a.
  • International visits are expected to increase from 128,100 in 2008 to 150,900 in 2015, representing growth of 22,800 or 17.7%. The share of total visits generated by international visitors is expected to increase from 10.0% to 11.2%.
  • Domestic visits are expected to increase from 1.15m in 2008 to 1.20m in 2015, representing growth of 52,700 or 4.6%. The share of total visits generated by domestic visitors is expected to decrease from 90.0% to 88.8%.

 

Total Visitor Nights

  • Total visitor nights in Central South Island RTO are forecast to rise from 900,600 in 2008 to 965,700 in 2015 - an increase of 7.2% (65,100) or 1.0% p.a.
  • International visitor nights are expected to increase from 278,500 in 2008 to 317,800 in 2015, representing growth of 39,300 or 14.1%. The share of total visitor nights generated by international visitors is expected to increase from 30.9% to 32.9%.
  • Domestic visitor nights are expected to increase from 622,100 in 2008 to 647,900 in 2015, representing growth of 25,800 or 4.1%. The share of total visitor nights generated by domestic visitors is expected to decrease from 69.1% to 67.1%.
