Total Visits

  • Total visits by travellers to Southland RTO are forecast to rise from 1.46m in 2008 to 1.50m in 2015 - an increase of 3.3% (47,400) or 0.5% p.a.
  • International visits are expected to increase from 201,500 in 2008 to 235,000 in 2015, representing growth of 33,500 or 16.7%. The share of total visits generated by international visitors is expected to increase from 13.8% to 15.6%.
  • Domestic visits are expected to increase from 1.25m in 2008 to 1.27m in 2015, representing growth of 13,900 or 1.1%. The share of total visits generated by domestic visitors is expected to decrease from 86.2% to 84.4%.

 

Total Visitor Nights

  • Total visitor nights in Southland RTO are forecast to rise from 1.34m in 2008 to 1.44m in 2015 - an increase of 7.6% (102,000) or 1.1% p.a.
  • International visitor nights are expected to increase from 492,600 in 2008 to 561,600 in 2015, representing growth of 69,000 or 14.0%. The share of total visitor nights generated by international visitors is expected to increase from 36.9% to 39.1%.
  • Domestic visitor nights are expected to increase from 842,900 in 2008 to 875,900 in 2015, representing growth of 33,000 or 3.9%. The share of total visitor nights generated by domestic visitors is expected to decrease from 63.1% to 60.9%.
