Domestic Travellers

Last updated: January 2008

The Domestic Travel Survey (DTS) collects data on domestic visitor behaviour, expenditure and travel patterns.

Data is also collected from New Zealanders travelling off-shore through the arrival and departure cards.

Domestic Travel in New Zealand

The DTS provides in-depth information on New Zealanders travelling within New Zealand, including day trips, overnight trips, nights away, places stayed, main reason of trips, transport used, activities undertaken and expenditure.

Outbound Travel by New Zealanders

Thousands of New Zealanders travel off-shore each year, for holiday, business, visiting friends and relatives and many other reasons. Collection and processing of departure cards provides information on these travellers.
