Expenditure

International visitors spent a total of $5.951 billion in New Zealand for the year ended June 2010 (excluding international airfares). This is a decrease of 0.7% ($41 million) on the previous year.

 

Markets
The Australian market recorded the largest increase, up by $95 million or 5.8%, followed by China (up $53 million or 17.2%) and South Korea (up $3 million or 1.6%).

In contrast, the expenditure by the United Kingdom (down $116 million or 14.1%), USA (down $93 million or 15.3%), Japan (down $65 million or 15.4%) and Germany (down $10 million or 3.4%) were lower than the previous June year.

 

Average Spend
The average spend per visitor was $2,610, down 4.7% on the previous year.
