This page provides the latest provisional weekly and four-weekly data for short-term inbound and outbound travel to and from New Zealand to enable the tourism industry to monitor arrivals and departures on a regular and timely basis.

Total visitor arrivals up by 6.2% over the same period last year.

  • Ups: Australia 19%, China 21%
  • Downs:  UK -9%, US -1%, Japan -8%, South Korea -40%, Germany -1%, Canada -9%, Singapore -9%, Netherlands -11%

 

Total NZ trips abroad up by 0.9% over the same period last year.

  • Ups:  Australia 2%, Fiji 4%, Samoa 32%, Thailand 14%, Canada 63%
  • Downs:  UK -11%, US -2%, China -4%, Cook Islands -5%, India -14%

Caveats

It is important to note that this data is provisional based on a majority of data processed, and will be revised when all data is processed. Final data will be available when it is released by Statistics New Zealand usually around the third week of each month.

 

Comparisons of data for 'equivalent' periods a year apart need to be treated with caution, as data for one period may be influenced by events for which there is no equivalent in the other period (eg the days leading up to Christmas, Chinese New Year, Easter, school holidays, etc).
