Departures
- In the month of July 2010 New Zealand residents undertook 207,990 short-term overseas trips, up by 9,630 or 4.9% compared to July 2009.
Destinations
- There were more trips to Australia (up 7,690 or 8.6%), Samoa (up 1,000 or 23.4%), Indonesia (up 630 or 33.8%), China (up 630 or 18.6%) and the Cook Islands (up 630 or 8.9%).
- In contrast, there were fewer trips to the United Kingdom (down 1,300 or 9.9%), New Caledonia (down 480 or 35.7%), the United States (down 320 or 2.9%), South Africa (down 290 or 24.6%) and Canada (down 140 or 4.8%).
Purpose
- There were more New Zealanders on holiday (up 2,900 or 3.1%), on business (up 2,300 or 10.5%) and visiting friends and relatives (up 2,300 or 3.7%) in July 2010 compared to July 2009.
Duration
- The average length of trips in July 2010 was 18.0 days, 0.5 day shorter than in July 2009.
Annual Departures
- There were 1.978 million trips undertaken in the year ended July 2010, up by 61,810 or 3.2% on the previous year.
