International Visitor Arrivals
- In the month of July 2010 there were 182,900 international visitor arrivals, up by 3.8% (6,700) compared to July 2009.
Markets
- Visitors from China (up 3,900 or 94.2%) recorded the largest increase in July 2010, followed by Japan (up 2,750 or 73.9%), Australia (up 1,600 or 1.7%), South Korea (up 800 or 15.5%) and Taiwan (up 500 or 31.2%). Many of these markets were affected by the H1N1 pandemic in July 2009.
- There were fewer visitors from the United Kingdom (down 2,360 or 19.8%), the United States (down 1,770 or 13.1%), Ireland (down 450 or 32.8%), Thailand (down 280 or 21.3%) and Fiji (down 140 or 10.3%).
Purpose
- There were more visitors on holiday (up 5,230 or 6.3%) in July 2010 compared to July 2009. There were fewer visitors on business (down 390 or 2.1%) and visiting friends and relatives (down 70 or 0.1%).
Duration
- In July 2010 the average length of stay of visitors was 19.4 days, up 0.1 day from July 2009. The total number of visitor days increased by 4.5% (152,400) to 3.5 million.
Flights
- There were 2,588 flight-arrivals in July 2010, 58 flights or 2.3% more than in July 2009.
Annual Arrivals
- For the year ended July 2010 there were 2.51 million international visitor arrivals, up 4.0% or 96,100 on the previous year.
- Total visitor days were up by 3.0% to 50.6 million, with the average length of stay down 0.2 day to 20.3 days.
